Bennett's, Growing for Over 100 Years

Ervin Bennett, born to Mr & Mrs Ellis Bennett in the small farming community of Horicon in the summer of 1887. Ervin Bennett was involved in agriculture for many years until his passing in 1970. Gilbert Bennett, Ervin's youngest son continued the farming operation while, also working for the Department of Agriculture as a field supervisor. Gilbert's wife Betty worked at the soils testing lab. Gilbert had purchased a neighboring farm to expand the operation in 1957.

Deborah, Gilbert's daughter, moved back to the family homestead in 1977. Deborah had previously worked in a greenhouse in Fort Atkinson for five years. In 1977 Deborah Bennett had modified to operation to accommodate for the sale of bedding plants and vegetables. Trees and shrubs soon followed. In 1988 Korey Sayles was hired as a field laborer. Korey later became a partner in Bennett's, focusing his efforts on the landscaping division.

Gilbert and Betty although retired, still play a major roll in the operations at Bennett's along side of their daughter Deborah. In 2004 Deborah's son, Matthew Bennett Kinnard graduated from UW River Falls with a bachelor of science degree in horticulture. Continuing the Bennett's generational dedication to agriculture. Today, the Bennett Garden Center and Nursery sits at the riverside homestead where Ervin Bennett worked the land with horses a century before.
